Miss Gay Brazil 2011

Great night last night. Luiz and I went to the Miss Gay Brazil pageant hosted at the Unidos da Tijuca samba school quadra. LOADS of queer guys.

I felt like the paparazzi, catching all the grrlz in their finest. But they LOVE the camera!  Hahaha

The show was great. I especially loved the intermission (between the regional costume portion and the evening gown portion of the pageant) that drummed the hell out of the place and featured super cute near naked boyz dancing and gesticulating all up in our face.  You go boyz! (I was too entranced to remember to take photos.)

Oh – and somehow we didn’t leave until nearly 5:00 a.m.  Plus the bus taking us home was PACKED and we had to stand. At nearly 5:00 in the morning!  Brazilians love their parties.

Oh - and I should mention that Miss Santa Catarina took home the honor.

Mister Brazil 2011 named

Last weekend the 2011 Mister Brazil competition took place in Angra dos Reis.  At the end of the evening Lucas Malvacini, representing Búzios, was elected the new Mister Brazil.  Take a look.

I am grateful to the folks at the Made In Brazil blog, which promotes Brazilian models in the fashion world, for the nonstop eye candy.  What a great job.

Mastering Havaianas

When I was a boy I wore flip flops pretty much only when taking a shower at summer camp or in family campground public showers.  They were not regular footwear.

Since moving to Brazil I have worn Havaianas (flip flops) pretty much 80% of the time.  To the beach, to the grocery store, to the dentist, to the park, to the shopping mall, to the cardiologist, to the bakery – you get the idea.

At first my toes were sore.  Not being a flip flop guy, I was forever afraid they would separate from my feet, so I would scrunch my toes to try and hold on to the flimsy footwear.  

As for the locals – it is amazing to watch people in flip flops run, scramble up a hillside, work a construction site, navigate the rocky shore at the beach, you name it.

Nowadays I’ve gotten much better – much more unconscious – when wearing my Havaianas.  My toes are no longer scrunching to hold on to our connection.

I take it as a sign of assimilation.

Gay Pride Parade today in Copacabana

Today is the 15^th annual Gay Pride Parade in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.  Beginning at 1:00 p.m. crowds will begin to gather at the western end of the beach, Posto 6.  At some point thereafter (several hours) the collection of trio electricos and colorful, happy people will begin to creep up Avenida Atlântica until the whole Avenue is covered, the trio electricos evenly spaced.

Then the party goes until after dark.  (So you really do not need to get there at 1:00).

And if you live here you can see out your window that the always gleeful, dancing, sunshine fairies have been fast at work and have chased the rain clouds away.  Don’t be scared.  The fairies never let it rain on a gay pride event.  (At least, that is their mission.)

Brazilian fashion - always upscale

If you are not already monitoring the Made In Brazil blog - you should be.

Great fashion, total joy, nothing but eye candy - girl and boy (OK, mostly boy).

The author is committed to promoting Brazilian (male) models.  True inside ti ti ti.
