Time for some fun

OK – time for a play date.

In my former life I was a therapist for many people who were experiencing difficulty. Being a therapist was not my favorite profession. Trust me, I know: talking about your difficulties has little to no impact toward creating change. Your therapist may tell you differently, but they are lying. There is practically no peer-reviewed research that suggests talking therapy is effective. Sorry to break the news to you. (Best kept secret among therapists.)

The real approach to change is to DO something. So let’s go have a drink!

Recently I have read several posts on my favorite blogs recounting tales of sadness, loneliness, heart sickness and simple yearning to find more connectedness in everyday life – aka – make some friends. (You know who you are.)

I feel you. Being a stranger in a strange land has its consequences. But we are many. Let’s reach beyond the blogosphere and actually meet each other. It could be fun!

Here is my proposal: Saturday, July 24th – 2:00 p.m. on Copacabana beach. Let’s meet at the kiosk in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel (could there be an easier location?)

I will be the big guy with the mylar balloon talking to the incredibly cute Brazilian guy (that’s you Luiz, calm down). Bring your kids, your husband, your secret lover, your dog… Be prepared to speak in English.

For those of you who live out of town – make a day of it! (Heck – I live out of town and I will be there.)

Talk to me.

It will take some serious convincing on my part to get The Chemist to go along with this idea, but I will definitely try and persuade him. Then I can bring your file folders to you in person : ) And a soap I found on hand, that isn't herbal, but is goat's milk and neutral scented. Convince Ginger to come, would you?

(ginger, hint, hint!)

I'll try. Can't promise, but I'll try.

The Chemist and the boys would have great fun on the beach! Plus there is a very affordable Chinese restaurant nearby -- YUM!

Ginger and I have a meet-up on the Friday before to exchange books, because she has travel plans on the weekend. I thought about proposing the play date to coincide, but I thought Friday afternoon would be tough for most folks. I'm assuming she is a no-show.

**Come Friday and have lunch with us!!**

In any case, I hope you can make it. I will take a big bag to carry back the goodies you have so generously picked up for me. Mil beijos.

Danielle - get the overnight bus to Niterói. We have a guest room.

It would be great to see you in person (and to meet your husband).

You can stay as long as you like.

I wish i could come too! i want to come to rio badly! but my husband doesnt have the time, we dont have the money, and convincing him to let me come to rio alone would be about as easy as telling him I was parachuting into afghanistan. but the day we do finally come, i want to meet you and that cute boy! :)

Wish I could come, but I won't get to Brazil until August 1st. Just missed it!

Hope you do it again some time, I'll be there if I can.

I'm in! I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'm going to bring my boys and my husband or get my husband to keep the boys in the afternoon and go on my own. Btw, go on my own means I'll actually be able to chat! ;)

Either way, I'm there!
